SAF REFRIGERATION ENGINEERING was founded by Mr. IF Kapdi in 1974 as a small company which handled repairs and maintenance of refrigeration, air-conditioning and ventilation systems. Mr. IF Kapdi, who has over 30 years experience in the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems developed his expertise with hands-on work on board various ships and vessels being built by Mazagon Dock Ltd (a premier shipyard owned by the Govt. of India), being repaired in Mumbai Port Trust (a Govt of India undertaking) and other ship repair facilities in and around Mumbai.

His expertise and experience helped evolve the company from handling of minor repairs to major repairs and then to fabrication of HVAC & R equipment and installation of the same. This included fabrication of ducting, fans, coils, condensers & other manufactured items required in the refrigeration & air-conditioning systems. The company also sourced quality bought out items required for the HVAC systems, installed and commissioned the same.

Over a period of 30 years the company developed into an entity which was capable of assessing the requirement of a client, designing the requisite system, procurement of necessary equipment, fabrication of needed components, installing the system, testing and commissioning it. In short it transformed itself from a repairing company into a turn-key project handling establishment. This was the result of total commitment and dedication to quality which Mr. IF Kapdi provided to the company.

Mr. IF Kapdi’s obsession with quality made the SAF Refrigeration Engineering a dependable and trusted contractor for major ship builders & owners like Mazagon Dock Ltd, Indian Navy & Indian Coast Guard. The reputation of the company ensured that its business grew exponentially. Obviously it needed qualified staff and workers to meet the increased work load. This need was fulfilled by the induction of Mr. Mukhtar I Kapdi.

The partners are supported by a well qualified team of Managers, Engineers and Supervisors. The work force is well trained and dedicated. Besides the core team the company has a pool of qualified and experienced technicians which can be mobilized at short notice.

The office and workshop of the company is located at a Sewree Industrial Estate, which is in the immediate vicinity of Mazagon Dock, Mumbai Port Trust and Naval Dockyard, the hubs of marine activity. This enables the Directors and the staff to reach any of these locations at short notice. The office and workshop are also easily accessible from the arterial P D’Mello Road and the harbour line railway station at Sewree. A metallurgical laboratory is located in the next building which allows expeditious testing of any material by an independent agency.

Initially SAF was selected by the then M/s. FLAKT INDIA & today’s M/s. ABB Ltd., as sub-contractor for all their Refrigeration (Cool & Cold Room) & Air-Conditioning jobs in Shipbuilding Industry. SAF was entrusted with the responsibility of Fabrication, Installation & Commissioning of all types of Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Systems & Equipment initially in Shipbuilding Industry & subsequently on Offshore Platforms, Buildings, Factories Air-conditioning System etc.

Now our area of operations has grown from Repair & Maintenance of Central Air-conditioning Plant to turnkey contracts for Air-conditioning systems and we are presently carrying out the responsibilities of an independent Air-conditioning contractor.

SAF Refrigeration Engineering is capable of providing various types of designs for Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Systems on Merchant Ships & War Ships. SAF has full-fledged design capabilities for any requirement in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Industry. A well qualified CAD team caters to the demands of modern industry requirements. A team of qualified and experienced engineers, supervisors and tradesmen who have carried out turnkey projects across the various industries, such as Shipbuilding, Ship repair, Process Industries, Industrial complexes and other buildings, are available with us. This team is compact and can be mobilized at short notice to carry out projects anywhere in the country or abroad.

We have excellent relationship with manufacturers of AC. & Ventilation equipment like M/s. BITZER INTERNATIONAL, M/s. KIRLOSKAR MCQUAY, M/s. KRUGER INDIA, , M/s. VOLTAS INDIA, M/s. CARRIER AIRCON, M/s. BOCK (GERMANY/INDIA) Pvt. Ltd. etc. Consequently, we can provide original equipment from these manufacturers at competitive rates and install the same at client premises with performance guarantees.

We are registered contractors for Fabrication, Installation & Commissioning of Ventilation ducts and Air-conditioning & Refrigeration systems on Warships, Merchant Ships with M/s. Mazagon Dock Limited, M/s. Goa Shipyard Limited and M/s. ABG Shipyard Limited. We are also registered contractor with Indian Coast Guard for Maintenance, Repair and Refit work of Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Systems on Coast Guard Ships.

M/s Mazagon Dock Ltd (owned by the Govt. of India) have awarded us contracts for fabrication, installation and commissioning of the Ventilation and Air-conditioning system of P-17 ships for the Indian Navy. The orders, which are worth around US $ 2.4 Million, are being executed presently.
We are registered with MbPT (Mumbai Port Trust, Govt. of India) and are authorized by CME (Chief Mechanical Engineer) for repair & refit work on Indian and Foreign vessels.

We have commissioned various HVAC & R Systems for several ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Commission, a Govt. owned oil exploration company) Platforms by pioneering Automation PLC Panel through ABB Ltd. & Heinen & Hopman at Bombay High North, Bombay High South and Heera Oil Fields. We are presently carrying out the operation and maintenance of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration plants on 2 No. rigs and 1 platform for ONGC, through M/s. Asea Brown Boweri.

We have a joint venture with M/s. Johnson Controls, Denmark (previously YORK MARINE, Denmark) for supply and installation of all HVAC & R equipment in India.

The total turn over of the company for the current financial year is in the range of US $ 1.5 Million.
Ours is a ISO 9000:2008 certified company since 2002 and the same has been revalidated by DNV (Det Norske Veritas) for a period of 3 years in December 2006.
